Make the switch to E-ZPass Flex

If you already have a Virginia E-ZPass account and plan to carpool on the 64, 66, 95, 395, and 495 Express Lanes, you can exchange your E-ZPass for an E-ZPass Flex or get a new E-ZPass Flex. Note: The lost/stolen fee for a Flex Transponder is $20.00 (as opposed to $10 for the Standard Transponder).

For customers exchanging their current transponder for a Flex - When you receive your new E-ZPass Flex transponder, simply return your old E-ZPass to any of the participating customer service locations or mail it to:

If you are a current customer and you want to add a Flex to your E-ZPass account, you can:

  • Go Online - Log on to your account to request a Flex transponder
  • Over the Phone - Call Customer Service at 877-762-7824
  • In Person - Visit any one of the participating customer service locations and request to add a transponder to your account or visit any retail location, pick up a flex transponder and then go online to register it to your existing E-ZPass account

If you do not already have a Virginia E-ZPass account, you can get your E-ZPass Flex today. Sign up online, call us, go to one of our customer service locations, or visit a participating retail location, including Wegmans, Giant and AAA Mid-Atlantic.

*Please Note:

  • Users who have not used their Flex transponder for HOV transactions on Express Lanes for any prior twelve month period may be asked to exchange their Flex transponder for a standard transponder (at no cost). Additionally, the lost/stolen fee for a Flex Transponder is $20.00 rather than $10.00.
  • If you are going to travel on any of the Express Lanes on HOV mode with the required number of passengers, you will need to get a flex transponder, and you will need to place the switch to ON.

  • - Website and automated phone system continue to be available 24/7
    To make it easier to get an E-ZPass, the minimum opening account balance has been temporarily reduced to $20.00 per transponder (from $35.00) for online and phone applications
